Ebonyi-born public affairs activist, Nwoba Chika Nwoba has cried out that the governor of Ebonyi state has reported him to his LGA stakeholders over criticisms of his government.
Nwoba who hails from Ekpelu in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state posted on his Facebook handle on Wednesday alleging that Governor Francis Nwifuru reported him to Ikwo stakeholders.
“Ebonyi people, Ebonyi Governor has reported me to Ikwo stakeholders,” he said.
According to him, “It was even aired on the Radio Nigeria’s Network News. He said they should call me to order. That I should stop criticizing his government. That I should wait for my turn to become governor.”
The activist further claimed that he has been receiving FG threats for a while following his call-outs of the state government over the underdevelopment of the state as well as poor compensation of state workers.
On Tuesday, Nwoba complained that “A level 8 civil servant in Ebonyi is paid N80K monthly. How do these workers cope? No wonder most of them are into political praise singing to meet up.
“State Governments have done a lot of bad in Nigeria. State Assembly, dead. State courts, dead. Imagine giving them the State Police and now prison. God forbid State Police. “
He lamented that a man or woman with children cannot cope with such a meagre pay monthly adding that “It’s not that there’s no money to pay better salary figures. It’s not about giving Christmas largesse that’ll only get to some workers. Let there be a better wage system for the workers. How can education thrive in Ebonyi when in public schools many teachers earn N45-55K monthly? Imagine having to fuel one’s motorcycle day in, day out to work, you’ll see that many will be skipping work often, and they’re not to blame. “
He added; “Isn’t it wise to call building of flyovers a day in that state and focus on education, skill, empowerment, rural development & eradication of poverty? Imagine sinking the N10 billion each flyover takes into skill acquisition and a better wage system for workers. When workers are paid well, money will be in circulation. There’ll be a structural manifestation of the increase in remuneration. “
In his post on Wednesday, Nwoba claimed that the state governor is directly coming at home over the criticisms he makes.
“It has been threat all the way. Now, it’s coming from the 001 himself. If you don’t see me criticizing the government again, know it that they’ve either killed me, or I decided to steer clear so I don’t kill another by criticizing his government. It’s now obvious I have overrun the media & publicity unit of the Ebonyi State Government. This is the material they want to kill instead of extracting meaningful stuff from for the good of the administration. I’m under threat from the 001 of Ebonyi State.”
He explained further that “What this means is that the most potent voice of dissent and accountability is about going oblivious. I have received many phone calls from people in this regard.”
According to him, “Opposition is about to die in Ebonyi State completely because I know the extent I have gone in sustaining opposition. I have suffered so much this year alone. I have done my best and the message is already out there: the current Government of Ebonyi State is doing nothing tangible to take Ebonyi to the next level.”
Therefore he added that, “since Mr Governor goes depressed any time I criticize his administration, it’s imperative that I don’t cause anyone’s death in any form, by any means.”
