Anthony Joshua Stable After Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash, Says Ogun Governor

The governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, on Monday assured that renowned British-Nigerian boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, and other passenger(s) who were involved in a road accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway are receiving the best possible medical care.

Abiodun in a statement posted on his official Facebook page, also assured that investigations into the incident have commenced.

He wrote, “We wish to confirm that British-Nigerian two-time unified world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, was involved in a road traffic accident earlier today along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

“The vehicle conveying a team of four reportedly collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the tragic loss of two lives.”

He added that the state government was working closely with the Lagos state Government to manage the situation and provide support to all those affected.

That statement added; “As the Governments of Ogun and Lagos States, we are closely monitoring the situation and will ensure that all affected persons receive the best possible medical care.

“Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident have commenced.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and share in their grief at this painful moment.

“We pray that Almighty God grants them the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the Ogun governor prayed.

According to the governor, Joshua and another passenger were taken to a specialised medical facility in Lagos, where they were assessed by medical professionals.

“Anthony Joshua and another passenger were promptly evacuated to a specialised medical facility in Lagos.

“Following thorough clinical evaluations, medical professionals have confirmed that both patients are stable and do not require any emergency medical intervention at this time.

“A full medical team has been constituted and will continue to monitor them closely.”

Abiodun further confirmed that Joshua was conscious after the accident and had been in touch with his family.

“We can also confirm that Anthony Joshua is conscious and has been in contact with his family.”

“We appreciate the concern and goodwill expressed by members of the public and respectfully request privacy for Anthony Joshua and his family at this time,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, in a joint statement issued by Special Adviser, Information, Ogun State, Kayode Akinmade and Commissioner, Information, Lagos State, Gbenga Omotoso, on Monday, the two state governments sympathized with the families while assuring the public that investigations were underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
