Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Killing of Abuja Lawyer in ‘One-Chance’ Attack
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has apprehended three individuals over the killing of a legal practitioner, Chigbo Princess, in a case believed to be connected to “one-chance” armed robbery activities in Abuja.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the arrests followed a directive from the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Miller Dantawaye, to swiftly identify and bring those responsible to justice. She disclosed that operatives of the command’s Scorpion Squad, under the leadership of ACP Victor Ogbeide Godfrey, relied on digital intelligence to track the victim’s mobile phone, leading to coordinated operations carried out between January 5 and 10, 2026, across Dei-Dei, Dakwa and Dan-Tata areas of Kubwa.
Adeh named the suspects as Saifullahi Yusuf, 22; Ishau Yusuf, 24; and Minka’ilu Jibril, popularly known as Dan-Hajia. She noted that Saifullahi and Ishau are siblings and both reside in Dan-Tata Community, Dei-Dei, Abuja.
The police spokesperson said the command recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat violent crime, describing the suspects as members of a notorious “one-chance” robbery gang that has operated intermittently within the FCT for years, especially during festive seasons. Preliminary findings, she added, showed that the suspects used a black Volkswagen Golf 3 vehicle to carry out their operations.
Investigations revealed that on January 5, 2026, at about 5:50 p.m., the deceased allegedly boarded the suspects’ vehicle along the Kubwa Expressway, unaware of their criminal intent. Once inside, the windows were reportedly wound up, and she was threatened with weapons as the suspects demanded money. When she allegedly resisted, she was assaulted and pushed out of the moving vehicle, an act that led to her death.
Adeh further stated that the suspects took the victim’s Android phone and later sold it in Dei-Dei for ₦120,000. She said the proceeds were shared among the suspects, with Minka’ilu Jibril receiving ₦30,000, Saifullahi Yusuf ₦15,000, while Ishau Yusuf and another accomplice, identified as Musa and currently on the run, shared the balance.
Items recovered during the operation included five scissors, two dagger knives, two other knives, a long chain and a plier.
Princess Chigbo’s body was earlier discovered on Tuesday along the Kubwa Expressway, while her bag, containing her identity card and other personal items, was found a short distance away. Documents recovered from her belongings suggested she may have worked with the FCT High Court. The police had earlier confirmed that investigations into the incident were ongoing.
The arrest comes amid heightened public concern following the recent killing of a nurse with the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, Chinemerem Chuwumeziem, an incident that drew strong reactions from the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, FCT Council.
