11 Terrorists Surrender as Troops Kill Eight, Arrest Two Logistics Suppliers in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have recorded fresh gains in the fight against insurgency in Borno State, with 11 suspected terrorist fighters surrendering to the military, eight others killed during encounters, and two alleged logistics suppliers taken into custody.

The development was confirmed on Sunday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba.

He disclosed that the fighters who surrendered handed over their AK-47 rifles and various rounds of ammunition to the troops.

According to the statement, soldiers under Operation Hadin Kai have continued aggressive ground operations against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) elements across several parts of Borno State, achieving successes through clearance missions, fighting patrols and blocking operations.

As part of Operation Desert Sanity V, sustained military pressure along the Azir–Wajiroko axis on January 10, 2026, compelled 11 insurgents to lay down their arms and surrender their weapons.

Lt Col Uba further revealed that on January 9, 2026, troops carried out intensive clearance operations within the Bulaagalda cluster, where multiple terrorist hideouts and camps were destroyed. Locations affected included Dagumba, Bonne, Yaganari, Gosuri and Umchile, as well as the well-known Abu Nazir and Abu Ahmed camps.

During the exercise, soldiers dismantled key support structures used by the insurgents, disrupted their supply chains and recovered several items, including weapons, magazines and terrorist flags.

Similar operations were also conducted in the Yale and Bula Gaida areas, forcing insurgents to flee their positions. This resulted in the destruction of additional logistics facilities and the recovery of arms, ammunition and a general-purpose machine gun.

In a separate operation following credible intelligence, troops engaged suspected JAS and ISWAP fighters between the Sojiri and Kayamla villages. The encounter led to the elimination of eight insurgents and the recovery of AK-47 rifles.

Additionally, two suspected collaborators were arrested in Gubio Local Government Area for allegedly supplying logistics to terrorist groups.

Lt Col Uba reassured residents that the troops remain committed to sustaining offensive operations, dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace and security across the North East.
