Four Killed, Shops Burned in Fresh Terrorist Attack in Damala Village, Niger State
The Niger State Police Command has confirmed that four people were killed and several shops set on fire during a recent terrorist attack in the state.
The incident took place in Damala village, Woko District of Borgu Local Government Area, on Saturday morning, causing widespread panic as residents fled in different directions. According to a local source, an unknown number of people were also abducted during the raid.
This attack occurred just days after a large-scale terrorist assault on Kasuwan Daji Market in Demo village, also in Borgu LGA, where at least 42 people were killed and others abducted.
Commenting on the latest attack, Niger State Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun said in a statement on Tuesday that the gunmen killed four villagers and stole some cattle. “The bandits attacked Damala village in Woko District, killing four residents and rustling an unspecified number of cattle. They also set multiple shops on fire before fleeing the scene,” he stated.
Abiodun added that security forces responded promptly, visited the area, and are conducting clearance operations. Monitoring has also been increased to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of residents. He reassured the public that efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and restore normalcy in the area are ongoing.
Borgu and Agwara LGAs have become frequent targets of terrorist attacks in recent times. In addition to the Kasuwan Daji Market killings, terrorists previously abducted 315 pupils, students, and staff from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Paipiri, Agwara LGA. The abducted individuals were released after a month following federal government intervention.
