Airport Police Arrest 24-Year-Old Over Alleged N48.5m Romance Scam
Operatives of the Airport Police Command have arrested a 24-year-old man, Precious Onudhona, over his alleged involvement in a romance scam said to be worth N48.5 million.
Police said the suspect, who hails from Delta State, was picked up on February 2, 2026, while trying to board a flight from Lagos to Asaba. His arrest followed intelligence reports linking him to online fraud activities.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Mohammed Adeola, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, noting that officers from the Anti-Fraud Unit carried out the operation as part of ongoing efforts to prevent criminal activities around the airport.
According to Adeola, early findings indicate that the suspect became involved in internet fraud in 2023 after allegedly joining a group known for romance-related scams.
He explained that members of the syndicate reportedly targeted victims through social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, where they used fake identities and emotional manipulation to gain trust before demanding money.
Investigators said Onudhona allegedly operated under the name “Travis Kevin,” posing as an American medical doctor to deceive unsuspecting victims.
The police further alleged that he created a fake online banking platform showing fabricated account balances to convince victims to send funds, promising quick repayment.
Adeola said the suspect often told victims the money was needed for feeding and medical supplies after he supposedly sustained injuries while on duty. Payments, he added, were mostly made through cryptocurrency channels to avoid detection.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, directed that a full-scale investigation be carried out.
She stressed the need to track down other members of the network and ensure everyone connected to the scheme faces justice.
The commissioner also reiterated that airport facilities remain a sensitive zone and warned that the command would not tolerate any attempt to use the environment for criminal purposes.
Police said the suspect would be handed over to the Interpol Section for further investigation and possible prosecution.
