Messi Gives Condition to Join Galatasaray, Link Up With Osimhen
Argentina captain Lionel Messi has reportedly emerged as a surprise transfer target for Turkish champions Galatasaray, with speculation growing over a possible short-term move that could see him play alongside Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen.
According to media reports in Turkey, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is considering options that would keep him match-fit ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Messi, who currently plays for Major League Soccer side Inter Miami, is on a break as the new MLS season is not scheduled to begin until February 21. The forward is said to be weighing the idea of temporarily leaving the United States to maintain competitive sharpness before the global tournament.
Turkish football analyst Levent Tüzemen claimed that contacts have been made between Galatasaray and the player’s camp over a possible short-term agreement lasting about four months.
Speaking to A Spor, Tüzemen said the proposed arrangement could see Messi feature in a limited number of matches.
He added that any deal would come with conditions, including the preference for the Argentine to play only in Istanbul rather than travel for away fixtures.
The Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal were also reported to have made an approach, but Messi allegedly turned down the offer.
Galatasaray are understood to have several home games remaining this season, including league matches, a Turkish Cup fixture and a UEFA Champions League play-off tie. It remains uncertain whether the club can meet the player’s reported terms or if negotiations will progress before the transfer window closes.
Club officials have yet to make an official announcement, though president Dursun Ozbek previously indicated that signing a player of Messi’s stature was not beyond the club’s ambitions.
“You can’t live without dreaming,” Ozbek told beIN Sports last year. “Our financial situation allows us to ask about Messi without a problem.”
If the move materialises, Messi would join Nigerian striker Osimhen, who has become a central figure for the Istanbul side following an impressive campaign. The Super Eagles forward scored 37 goals in 47 appearances as Galatasaray secured a domestic double last season.
Galatasaray currently sit top of the Turkish Super Lig standings with a narrow lead over rivals Fenerbahce as the title race intensifies.
For now, the potential transfer remains at the discussion stage, with both parties still assessing the feasibility of the deal.
