If You Allege, You Must Prove – Frederick Leonard Petitions Police Over Alleged Defamation by Stanley On Top

Nollywood actor and producer Frederick Nnaemeka Leonard has filed a formal petition with the Nigeria Police Force, accusing social media personality Stanley Chibueze Ajemba, popularly known as “Stanley On Top,” of defamation and libel.

Leonard disclosed the development on Facebook on Monday, sharing copies of a legal petition submitted through his solicitors, Uche Okoro & Co., which was stamped as received by the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Asaba.

In the post, the actor wrote, “You have been served. The law will take its course to the full extent. You first, others will follow. If you claim or allege, you must prove with evidence, I’m coming for you.”

According to the petition dated January 26, 2026, Leonard’s lawyers alleged that Ajemba has made “continuous defamatory and libelous statements” against their client for over two years.

The letter described Leonard as a popular actor and producer and a household name in Nollywood, claiming that the alleged statements have damaged his reputation and caused financial losses.

The solicitors accused Ajemba, identified as a self-styled actors’ rights activist, of making several unfounded allegations that undermine Leonard’s integrity and portray him negatively to the public.

Citing sections 373 to 381 of the Criminal Code Act applicable in Southern Nigeria, the legal team argued that the alleged actions amount to criminal defamation. The petition also referenced constitutional provisions on freedom of expression, noting that such rights are limited where they infringe on another person’s reputation.

Leonard’s lawyers requested the police to conduct an independent and thorough investigation into the allegations, invite Ajemba for questioning over his statements, and compel him to issue a written apology within seven days as well as retract and take down any allegedly defamatory publications.

They added that failure to comply would leave their client with no option but to pursue all available legal remedies.
