Troops Kill Two Suspected Terrorists, Recover Weapons in Ondo Operation
Troops of the 32 Artillery Brigade have killed two suspected armed terrorists during a security operation in Ondo State and recovered weapons and other items from the scene.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Major Irabor Njoka, and shared on the Nigerian Army’s official X account on Monday. According to the statement, the operation was conducted on February 14, 2026, by troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Auga, along the Akunu–Auga Road.
The Army said the troops acted on credible intelligence about the movement of suspected criminals in the area. Security personnel were mobilised to intercept the suspects, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
During the encounter, two of the suspects were killed, while others reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds. The operation was carried out in collaboration with operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun Corps, and local vigilante groups.
Items said to have been recovered include an AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 61 rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones, a jackknife, a torchlight, suspected illicit substances, charms, and ₦39,000 in cash, among other personal belongings.
The Brigade stated that the operation reflects ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army to restrict the activities of criminal elements and safeguard lives and property in the state. It added that troops would continue clearance operations, increase patrols in identified hotspots, and work closely with other security agencies and community stakeholders.
The Army also encouraged members of the public to provide credible and timely information to security forces, emphasising that community cooperation remains essential in tackling crime.
The operation comes amid intensified security efforts across the country. Recently, the Ondo State Security Network Agency announced the arrest of at least 95 suspected offenders across the state’s 18 local government areas. The state commander said those apprehended were linked to offences including kidnapping, theft, burglary, and illegal mining.
