Nationwide Campaign Begins for Igbo Presidency

A nationwide mobilisation drive has begun to push for the emergence of a president of Igbo extraction in the 2027 general elections.

The campaign is being coordinated by the Igbo Presidency Project (IPP). The group says it will deploy 10 volunteers to every polling unit across the country to promote its message.

At the launch of the initiative, the National Coordinator, Prince Chinedu Nsofor, said the movement is rooted in the demand for fairness and national balance.

He explained that the South-East has remained politically sidelined despite its role in building the Nigerian state.

Nsofor said the Igbo people have made major sacrifices for Nigeria’s unity and progress. Yet, according to him, the region continues to experience political exclusion at the highest level of leadership.

“The demand for an Igbo president is not a plea for favour, but a legitimate call for justice, equity, and national stability. Nigeria cannot continue to thrive while one of its most nation-building peoples remains shut out of the highest office,” he said.

He noted that the campaign would rely on grassroots engagement and peaceful persuasion. He stressed that all activities would follow democratic and constitutional processes.

The IPP coordinator said the movement is not driven by ethnic emotion alone. He described it as a national project tied to Nigeria’s history and the need for inclusive governance. He added that unity can only be strengthened when every region feels represented in power.

Nsofor highlighted the contributions of the Igbo across several sectors. These include agriculture, business, manufacturing, education, healthcare, sports, and public service. He said Igbo communities are found in almost every part of the country and have a strong culture of integration.

He also pointed to the long tradition of inter-ethnic coexistence among the Igbo, saying this reflects their belief in national belonging rather than isolation.

According to him, Igbo entrepreneurs and professionals have been central to Nigeria’s internal trade and industrial expansion. He linked this to a system that values merit, competition, and decentralised leadership.

The group said its volunteers will engage voters directly in communities, markets, and public spaces. The aim is to build nationwide acceptance for an Igbo presidency before the 2027 elections.

IPP believes that achieving this goal will promote equity and reduce long-standing political tension between regions.
