Panic In Sokoto As Bandits Kill One, Abduct Five Residents
The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed that a bandit attack on Mallamawar Yari village in Gawakuke Ward of Rabah Local Government Area left one person dead and five others kidnapped.
The assault reportedly took place on Saturday night when armed attackers stormed the community, throwing residents into panic.
Earlier reports circulating on social media had claimed the attackers disguised themselves in women’s hijabs to avoid being noticed before carrying out the attack. However, the police have refuted the claim.
Spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, said while the attack did occur, the gunmen did not wear disguises.
“The attack is confirmed, but they did not disguise themselves. Five people were abducted and one person lost their life,” Rufai stated.
He explained that those taken away include three women and two men. According to him, security agencies have already begun efforts to track the attackers and secure the safe return of the victims.
Rufai added that security personnel have increased patrols and operations in the affected area as investigations into the incident continue.
The attack has heightened concerns about the security situation in parts of Sokoto State, where communities have continued to face threats from bandit groups.
In recent months, several villages across the state, particularly those close to border local government areas, have experienced repeated raids, kidnappings, and violence. The situation has forced many residents to abandon their homes while fears over safety in rural communities persist.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain alert and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies as efforts continue to tackle insecurity in the region.
