BREAKING!!! Peter Obi’s Single Tenure Vow Divides Nigeria
Less than 24 hours after Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate under Labour Party reiterated his single tenure vow — netizens have been biting each other’s necks.
NEWSMAXNG reports that on Sunday, Obi had released a statement on his Social Media page stating that his single tenure vow is sacrosanct and nothing would change that.
His statement came after Soludo slammed him (Obi) albeit indirectly stating that “anyone who says they’d serve a single tenure needs psychiatric evaluation”.
However, Obi in his statement, said anyone criticizing his vow was simply judging him by their own standard which he said is of promise and fail.
Meanwhile, netizens have taken it upon themselves to analyze the former Anambra Governor’s vow as many think he spoke the words of a wise man while others foresee a future failure.
Reacting across social media, some Nigerians have taken back to history to counter Obi on the context citation of Nelson Mandela and Abraham Lincoln, others.
Obi had stated that his vow to serve a single tenure follows the steps of the past heros who served their country in 48 months and achieved great fits.
However, some Nigerians put it to him that neither of the past leaders he cited served a single tenure out of their own goodwill.
@Chibuzo-mikel countered; “The US presidents Abraham Lincoln and JF Kennedy that you cited as examples did not choose to serve one term in office. Lincoln was actually in his second term in office when he was assassinated while Kennedy was assassinated in his first term and had planned to seek re-election.
“Nelson Mandela indeed served for one term, however that’s because of a number of reasons. First, he was already 75 years of age when he first became president. By the time he concluded his first term in office in June 14th 1999 he was 80 years already and turned 81 the next month. So, he was already old and exhausted from 27 years of incarceration.
“You’re neither a Mandela nor a Lincoln or a Kennedy. You sound as if you have never held an elected office before. You sought re-election as Anambra Governor in 2010, and narrowly won courtesy of a divided opposition. Why didn’t you walk away after only one term in office? Meanwhile after serving two terms, did Anambra look like a state that has been transformed? If you couldn’t transform a small Anambra after 8 years, is there a guarantee that you’ll do anything significant under 4 years as President of a complex and complicated Nigeria?
“You talk about keeping your promises or your vow being your bond, but you and I know that’s not true. You have broken previous promises and usually lie with reckless abandon, sometimes needlessly. For example, you said you won’t leave APGA but you left (the reason for your exit is immaterial because if we’re to make allowance for excuses, you’ll definitely have an excuse to break your one-term vow). You talk about trust, but how do you expect people to trust someone who can’t keep a simple promise not to leave a political party?”
The user further questioned Obi’s understanding of the complexity of the problems he would tackle across many sectors in Nigeria as well as the amount of funds required noting that 4 years would not be enough to do all.
He cited insecurity, education, healthcare and poverty alleviation of a more than 220 million nation; catalyzing small businesses, transforming agriculture all which he questioned if he (Obi) could solve during his time as Anambra Governor.
An X user identified as @omojuwa also wrote;
“Anyone who promises a “sacrosanct” one-term presidency isn’t looking to be president to get anything much done.
“No matter now deluded you are, I will still let you know. There is not getting much done as president of Nigeria in 4 years. It’s easy to know why: states are easier to fix, but did anyone fix a state in 4 years?
“In essence, whoever is making such a promise is simply just obsessed with the power and allure of the office of the president. They are either ignorant of the work it entails or they don’t care.
“The good thing is, no politician worth their while believes anyone will get to Aso Rock and of their own will decide not to run for another term. A minuscule part of me is disappointed we won’t test this by 2031 because no one making such a commitment will win the presidency in 2027.”
However, many more others have hailed the former Anambra Governor for being brave and fearless stating that his come back at Soludo was worthwhile.

The obsession on Peter Obi about everything he does or says shows you people don’t have the interest of the common Nigerian at heart..
“Give PO some benefit of doubt, he’s not an AI.”
