School Children Deserve Classrooms Not Abandoned Projects – Peter Obi
A former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has criticized the decline in performance of Nigerian students especially during the 2025 WASSCE examination.
Obi described the 2025 result statistics as the worst in five years.
The former Anambra Governor decried the deteriorating state of Nigeria’s education sector, describing it as a crisis of immense magnitude that demands immediate national attention.
Obi further highlighted that schoolm children may be affected due to inadequate infrastructures noting that they deserve quality education.
He made this statement in reaction to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) report which revealed that over 20 million Nigerian children are currently out of school, with many more unable to read or write despite being enrolled.
Obi lamented that the Nigerian government has refused to prioritize the right things as he criticized the ongoing renovation of different projects adding that “at a time when education should be our most urgent national priority and most critical investment, we as leaders continue to spend trillions on infrastructures, most of which contribute little or nothing to the measurable development index.”
Therefore, Obi called for education to be prioritized rather than insignificant things.
He urged the government at all levels to channel reasonable resources to developing the educational sector.
“Education is the most powerful investment we can make in the future of this nation
“Our children deserve classrooms, not abandoned projects.
“A nation that neglects its young people has no future. To build a stronger, safer, and more prosperous nation, we must invest in our children, because when we fail them, we have failed our nation,” he added.
