JUST IN!!! IGP Orders Full Investigation Into Kwam 1 Flight Incident

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a thorough investigation into Fuji legend, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1 following the disruption of a flight at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

In a statement by the Police spokesperson, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Tuesday he revealed that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had cited breaches of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, 2023 in the formal complaint it over the August 5, 2025, incident.

Disclosing that the police is now fully investigating the incident, Adejobi stated that the police remains committed to protecting safety in the aviation sector and will collaborate with industry stakeholders to enforce compliance.

The statement read; “The Nigeria Police Force has received an official petition from NCAA over an alleged incident involving Mr. Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (popularly known as KWAM 1). He is accused of engaging in unruly conduct that allegedly obstructed the safe operation of an aircraft, in violation of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, 2023, following a reported incident on 5 August 2025 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

“In response, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the matter, to unravel the circumstances which led to the ugly incident and ensure justice is served accordingly.

“The Force hereby assures the public of its commitment to upholding safety and security within Nigeria’s aviation sector, while assuring stakeholders in the sector of improved collaboration towards aviation security and strict compliance with aviation laws.”

The inability to remand Kwam 1 has caused a lot of side talks in Nigeria in the last few days after another flight disruption involving the Ibom Air Airline and one miss Comfort Emmanson happened on Sunday.

In the first case, Kwam 1 had gotten involved in an altercation after he attempted to board a ValueJet flight to Lagos carrying a flask, and airline staff had suspected it contained alcohol.

The staff would request that he surrendered the item as it’s prohibited on domestic flight but he refused to surrender it which allegedly escalated into an incident where he blocked the aircraft from taxiing.

After the incident, the NCAA suspended the licences of the flight’s captain, Oluranti Ogoyi, and first officer, Ivan Iloba, while placing KWAM 1 on a six-month no-fly list pending the outcome of investigations.

Kwam 1 would later apologize saying he never intended to breach aviation rules or inconvenience anyone.

However, following the Miss. Emmanson’s case on Sunday where she allegedly assaulted a hostess after she was asked to turn off her mobile and she refused had sprang up, there have been calls for Kwam 1 prosecution.

Miss Emmanson was prosecuted and remanded in kirikiri and placed on flight lifetime ban a disciplinary action which different calibers of leaders and citizens have criticized highlighting that she was dehumanized by the airline staff when they could have managed the situation better.

Subsequently, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) volunteered to provide Miss Emmanson with legal pro Bono as it demanded the airline to tender a public apology to the passenger.

Now, the police has agreed to fully investigate the Kwam 1 case to ascertain whether or not he truly needs to be prosecuted or remanded.
