Marriage is a Stupid Step, I Just Want to Make Money – Chike
Nigerian singer and songwriter, Chike Osebuka, has revealed that he has no plans to get married at the moment, describing marriage as a “stupid step.”
The 32-year-old artiste, known for his soulful and love-themed songs, made the remark during an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo.
When he was asked when he was getting married, he replied that he does not consider marriage a priority.
According to him, in his personal opinion marriage is a stupid step.
He further revealed that his happiness is tied to financial stability.
“This is not even canal, I won’t lie to you, I like money. I want money,” he said.
Reflecting on his career journey, he said he never envisioned making a living from music until after his university education despite knowing he’d do music for life.
He further stated that he never knew music would take him so far as he only just “wanted to sing and disturb people around”.
Chike recounted he struggled with his finances at some point and no one helped him including friends, before he made it which shocked everyone including his mother who had inquired if he had soiled his hands.
He said; “I remember one time when I was about to do my show, and how much does the entire show cost, I think N400,000, if not less. because a lot of things were favours.
“And I called the friends I used to hang out with and drink with and, I mean, not, I’m not a drinker, but people I have fun with, and I knew the answer was no.
“But I just thought that I deserved the respect of telling me that, oh, you don’t have it, or you can’t do it now, or, oh man, I just, I flat out don’t have it.
“And with some of them, they just stopped picking my calls, you know, they just stopped.
“And it was, you know, a female friend of mine still that I went to, and for the first time, you know.
“At least I was comfortable around her enough to let out a couple of emotions, and I remember I actually cried that day.
“And she just looked at me, and she was like, Chike, don’t worry, I’ll give you the money, just go and concentrate.
“And that was, that’s how I got the money, literally gave me the money.”
Chike began his music career in 2015 following his participation in Project Fame.
