Confusion Rocks Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s Camp as Spokesman Maduka Okoro Dumps APC
Fresh cracks have emerged in the political camp of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North in the National Assembly, following the sudden resignation of his spokesperson, Dr. Maduka Okoro, from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okoro, a longtime loyalist of the former Abia governor and one of the most visible media hands defending Kalu’s political moves, shocked many by formally tendering his resignation in a letter dated September 6, 2025, addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Ozuitem Ward, Bende Local Government Area.
In the letter, Dr. Okoro expressed gratitude for his years in the APC but made it clear that he was moving on to “explore new paths” that would allow him contribute to the growth of his community, state, and Nigeria at large.
“After careful consideration, I have decided it’s time for me to explore new paths and contribute to the growth and development of my community, state, and country in different ways. While I will no longer be a part of APC, I remain committed to making a positive impact wherever I go,” his letter partly read.
The development has sent shockwaves across Abia North’s political landscape, with many observers describing Okoro’s exit as a dangerous signal that Orji Uzor Kalu’s camp is facing disarray ahead of 2027.
Political analysts note that as Kalu’s official spokesman, Okoro was not just a party member but also a strong pillar in shaping narratives for the senator’s political survival. His departure, therefore, raises concerns over waning loyalty within the APC structure in Abia North.
Sources within the party suggest that Okoro’s resignation may not be an isolated case, as more defections could hit the party in the weeks ahead due to what insiders describe as “growing dissatisfaction” with the senator’s style of leadership.
This latest setback adds to the mounting challenges facing Orji Uzor Kalu, whose third-term ambition for the Senate has already been met with stiff opposition both within and outside his constituency.
Observers believe that Okoro’s decision to abandon both APC and his principal signals a deeper crisis within the OUK camp—one that may significantly alter political calculations in Abia North as 2027 approaches.
