FG Inaugurates 65th Independence Day Celebration Committee

‎The Federal Government has formally inaugurated the Inter-ministerial Committee to oversee the planning and execution of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebrations.

‎Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation under President Tinubu, George Akume, stressed the importance of unity and patriotism as the country prepares to mark its national milestone.

‎This was contained in a statement released on Wednesday by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Segun Imohiosen.

‎He stated, “This anniversary is a reminder of where we are coming from and where we are going from here.

‎”As a nation, we have faced challenges in areas such as political, economic and social issues but have overcome them. An anniversary is not just a celebration of the past. It is a call for action for the future.

‎“We must therefore commit ourselves to building a nation where every citizen feels valued and empowered to contribute their quota to the goals and aspirations of the country.”

‎According to the statement, activities for the 65th Independence Anniversary will kick off with a World Press Conference on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

‎This will be followed by a Juma’at Service and Women’s Activities on Friday, September 26. Youth Activities and a Historical Arts Exhibition are scheduled for Saturday, September 27, while a Church Service will take place on Sunday, September 28. A Public Lecture is slated for Monday, September 29, culminating in a Presidential Broadcast and the Independence Day Parade on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

‎The statement added, “In addition to the commemorative events, the SGF also unveiled the Nigeria @65 Compendium Project Workstation.”

‎The project, initiated by CherryAfrica Magazine in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, was designed as a state-of-the-art media hub.

‎It will host an interview series featuring top government officials, highlighting their roles in national development in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

‎According to the statement, the interview session kick-started with the SGF’s interview, where he urged Nigerians to celebrate the nation’s achievements for the past 65 years and to also repose confidence in their leaders.

‎The national compendium would serve as a comprehensive repository of information on the nation’s milestones and development trajectory, cutting across the pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial Nigeria with emphasis on the MDAs, the economy, the three tiers of Government, the Renewed Hope Agenda and other key sectors of the economy.
