Tinubu Should Have Handled Things Like a Father- NNPP Condemns State of Emergency in Rivers

FG Releases ₦32.9bn to Primary Health Centres, Urges Communities to Have Conscience, Use Rightly

The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Health Ministry, has issued a red letter to communities across the nation as it disburses a total of N32.9bn, demanding that the funds be used appropriately.

In the letter signed by Prof. Muhammed Ali Pate, Coordinating Minister, Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in Abuja, on Thursday, the Tinubu-led government said the funds belong to individual and communities, to strengthen clinics, improve services, and save lives.

“‘The Red Letter’ from the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, @muhammadpate , is more than an announcement. It’s a call to every Nigerian to take ownership of our nation’s health,” the Ministry of health wrote on its official X handle on Wednesday.

According to the ministry, the ₦32.9 billion fund was released under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund @TheBHCPF.

It clarified further that the funds gave already been disbursed directly to primary health care facilities across Nigeria.

“This Red Letter embodies the heart of the Federal Government’s health reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda ; transparency, community participation, and shared responsibility in building a stronger, fairer health system for all,” it added.

The Red Letter Read; “Today, the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has approved and released ₦32.9 billion through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), the third round this year.

“This money is not sitting in Abuja. It has already begun its journey into the commercial bank accounts of primary health care facilities in every ward across Nigeria.”

The ministry emphasized that the released funds are “clinic’s money.”

“It is your community’s chance. It is your country’s promise,” it stressed.

It added; “Every facility now holds the power to plan and spend, not alone, but together with the community it serves. The health committee in your ward, your traditional leaders, your women’s and youth groups, your faith-based organizations, all of you are meant to sit together, decide together, and spend together on what will make your facility stronger, safer, and more ready to serve.

“This fund is the heartbeat of Nigeria’s renewed hope in health—a signal that government is not only fulfilling its responsibility as the custodian of the fund, but trusting you to help safeguard that spending.”

According to the Ministry, it has observed that communities stand aside as community members and institutions do not ask how the money is used, or if it reaches the people it was meant for. When that happens. “silence becomes a loss,” it said.

The ministry stated further that the Red Letter is a call from Federal Government of Nigeria (through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare) to the conscience of all involved to stand up and take ownership.

To Nigerians, it asked to “go to your health facility, Join the committee, review the plan, demand openness, and celebrate progress.”

And above all, it added, “make sure the fund truly protects the health of your people.”

The ministry noted further that each Naira in the ₦32.9 billion is a seed.

“When you nurture it with vigilance and pride, it grows into medicine, safe births, better infrastructure, and lives saved. When you neglect it, it withers into waste,” it added.

The Red Letter was concluded with a reminder that the health of Nigeria lives in the hands of Nigerians as the ministry expressed hope that it reached every community, every ward, and every home.
