If They Revoke Your Visa, Come Back, US is Not Your Father’s House – Sani Tells Nigerians Abroad

A former senator representing Kaduna Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, has urged Nigerians and other African nationals to return to their home countries from the United States if their visas get revoked.

Sani’s call follows mass visa revocation by the US government under Donald Trump.

According to the former senator, anyone whose visa is affected should leave the US voluntarily before Immigration and Customs Enforcement takes enforcement action reminding Nigerians and other Africans that their true homes remain their countries of origin.

He wrote, “Nigerians and other thousands of Africans whose visas were recently revoked by President Trump should hasten and leave the country and return home before they get arrested by ICE.

“No matter how long you live in the comfort of your adopted home, you will someday be reminded that it’s not your father’s house.”

NEWSMAXNG reports that the United States Department of State revoked the visas of more than 80,000 individuals, including Nigerians and other foreign nationals, as part of a sweeping immigration enforcement initiative under former President Donald Trump’s administration.

According to the department in a statement last Thursday, the action was in line with Trump’s commitment to protecting U.S. national interests and security.

It described the move as “promises made, promises kept” adding that, the revocations were based on various offenses, including assault, theft, and driving under the influence (DUI). Data from 2024 shows that 16,000 individuals lost their visas due to DUI-related offenses, 12,000 for assault, and 8,000 for theft. Additional reasons included links to terrorism, extremist activity, public safety risks, and violations of visa conditions.
