Nigerian Army Warns Against Using Old Photos of COAS as it Releases Official Portrait
The Nigerian Army has warned the general public against using old pictures of the 25th Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, as it releases an official portrait.
According to a statement released on its official handle on Tuesday, the Army stated that the move aims to standardise references to the Army’s top officer and avoid confusion with outdated photographs.
“You are kindly requested to update your media archives accordingly and refrain from using previous photographs, particularly those depicting the Chief of Army Staff with the rank of Major General, in subsequent publications,” the statement read.
The Army further clarified that an earlier portrait issued through its official handle should no longer be used.
It was said that the notice serves to ensure consistency across all media channels and official publications.
“Additionally, you are to disregard the initial portrait issued via this handle,” the statement added.
It also highlighted the importance of accurate reporting by the media as it commended personnel for their professionalism and support in national security matters.
“The Nigerian Army sincerely appreciate your professionalism, commitment and invaluable contributions to national security through factual and responsible reporting of our activities,” the statement said.
Shaibu assumed office as the 25th Chief of Army Staff earlier this year.
