Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi Emerges “2025 Ebonyi Senator Of The Year”
The Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate and Senator representing Ebonyi North, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi has emerged “2025 Ebonyi Senator Of The Year”.
Senator Nwebonyi polled a total of 12,345 votes to defeat two other nominees, Senator Ken Eze and Senator Okorie Ani.

Despite being a first timer at the National Assembly, Senator Nwebonyi has sponsored many bills which include ;
Raw Materials Production and Local Processing
Protection Bill: Passed by the Senate in July 2025, this bill mandates that all raw materials must undergo at least 30% local processing before export to promote value addition and industrial growth.
Compulsory Civil Registration Act, 2025: A bill seeking to repeal the 2004 Registration of Births and Deaths Act to establish a modern electronic civil registration system.
Federal Medical Centre Mbeke Ishieke Establishment Bill : This bill, which seeks to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Ebonyi State, scaled its second reading on December 2, 2025.
David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu (Establishment) Bill: A legislative effort to formally establish this institution.
Federal University of Agriculture, Ebonyi State (Establishment) Bill: Part of his agenda for educational development in his home state.
Federal College of Vocational Studies, Mbeke Ishieke (Establishment) Bill: A bill focused on vocational education.
Nigerian Coast Guard (Establishment) Bill, 2025: Co-sponsored by Senator Nwebonyi to bolster maritime security.
Also, Senator Nwebonyi has offered hundreds of scholarships to indigent Ebonyians and equally built houses for the widows.
Ebonyi Leadership Excellence Award is an annual award event organised by NEWMAX NIGERIA to recognise those doing well in various sectors in Ebonyi State.
