Oyo Police Arrest Three Teenage Girls Over Kidnapping Threat in Ikoyi-Ile

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three teenage girls suspected of involvement in a kidnapping threat in Ikoyi-Ile, Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement released on Friday in Ibadan, the state capital, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, identified the suspects as Fathia Nurudeen and Taiwo Fatai, both 17 years old, and Munirat Saliu, 16.

According to the police, the case began on Friday, January 9, 2026, when a resident of Ikoyi-Ile, Islamiat Omowumi, reported that she received a threatening phone call from an unknown number. The caller allegedly warned that she would be kidnapped and her body parts taken, claiming she was being targeted because she is a meat seller. The caller also reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦10 million and threatened severe consequences if the money was not paid.

Ayanlade said detectives immediately launched an investigation using intelligence-led methods, which quickly led to the arrest of the three suspects. During questioning, the girls allegedly admitted to making the call, explaining that it was meant to be a prank.

Police also recovered a small Itel mobile phone believed to have been used to make the threatening call, which further supported the investigation. The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue to establish all the facts surrounding the incident and determine the appropriate legal steps in line with the law.

The police command cautioned members of the public, especially young people, against engaging in actions that can cause fear, panic, or pose threats to lives, stressing that such behaviour amounts to serious criminal offences with legal consequences. The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
