300-Level IBB University Student Commits Suicide After Losing House Rent Money to Betting
A 300 level student of the Ibrahim Babangida University, Lapai, in Niger State, Kelvin Danlami, has committed suicide.
Kelvin, a Computer Science student of the institution, was said to have killed himself on Monday after he lost the house rent money kept in his custody due to gambling.
A university student, Musa Abdullahi, expressed his sympathy in a condolence message, warning young people to beware of quick money.
He said, “Yesterday, we lost a student from my alma mater who committed suicide after mismanaging money entrusted to him for house rent due to gambling.
“This is how gambling cut short the life of a promising 300-level Computer Science student.
“Dear young people, please stay away from anything that promises quick money through the wrong means.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may Allah grant his family the strength to bear “this painful loss.
The general Secretary of the school’s students Union Government, Aliyu Abubakar, wrote a condolence message, which he shared with PUNCH.
The condolence message read, “The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, received with deep sorrow the sad news of the passing of Kelvin Danlami, a 300 Level student of the Department of Computer Science, who has answered the call of his Creator.
“On behalf of the entire student community of IBB University, Lapai, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, relatives, friends, the Department of Computer Science, and all students of the University over this great and painful loss.
“Kelvin’s demise is indeed a tragic and irreplaceable loss, not only to his immediate family but also to his department and the entire University community. We pray that Almighty God grants his family the strength, comfort, and fortitude to bear this moment of grief, and that He consoles his colleagues and loved ones.”
The IBB SUG condolence message concluded, “Please accept our deepest sympathies.

The spokesman of the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, also reacted to the incident and said investigations were ongoing.
“On 19/1/26 at about 10.30am, information received indicated that in the early hours of the day, one Kelvin Danlami, a student of IBBL was found to have hanged himself in his room with a cloth tied to the ceiling fan.
“One of the student neighbours who discovered the situation raised an alarm, and the victim was rushed to Gen Hospital Lapai, where he was confirmed dead. The police operatives attached to Lapai Div visited the scene, conducted a preliminary investigation and the family of the deceased was contacted. However, further investigation is ongoing to ascertain the reason for such action”, he said.
