Resume Work Without Fear – APGA Chieftain Backs Soludo’s Move to End Monday Sit-at-Home in Anambra
A prominent member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chinedu Obigwe, has expressed strong support for Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s decision to end the long-standing Monday sit-at-home order across the state.
Obigwe, who serves as the National Coordinator of the APGA Media Warriors Forum, said the governor’s action is necessary for the economic recovery and long-term stability of the South-East.
In a statement released on Saturday, he urged residents of the region to rally behind Soludo, stressing that scrapping the weekly shutdown is in the collective interest of the people.
According to him, leadership sometimes demands difficult decisions to secure a better future, noting that the governor’s stance should not be misrepresented or politicised.
He also defended the recent one-week closure of the Onitsha Main Market, saying the measure was taken to protect traders and restore order, rather than punish business owners. Obigwe maintained that the move was aimed at safeguarding the broader interests of Anambra residents and the Igbo community.
He accused certain groups of attempting to create fear by circulating threatening messages and videos on social media to discourage people from going about their normal activities on Mondays. However, he reassured the public that the state remains safe.
Obigwe added that security agencies have intensified surveillance and are prepared to confront anyone seeking to disrupt peace or intimidate residents.
He called on workers, traders, and business owners to ignore what he described as scare tactics and resume their daily activities without fear, particularly on Monday, February 2, 2026.
The APGA chieftain also criticised a legal action reportedly filed against the state government over the temporary market closure, describing it as counterproductive to the region’s economic growth.
Highlighting Soludo’s leadership, Obigwe said the governor has consistently demonstrated commitment to the welfare and progress of Anambra State, adding that his policies reflect a genuine desire to protect the future of the people.
He concluded by encouraging citizens to support the government’s efforts to permanently end the sit-at-home practice and fully reclaim economic activities across the state.
It would be recalled that Governor Soludo recently reiterated that his administration would not reverse its decision to abolish the Monday sit-at-home directive in major commercial hubs such as Onitsha and Nnewi, describing the exercise as a form of economic sabotage the state can no longer afford.
