Three Imo Police Officers Dismissed Over Kidnapping, Robbery Allegations
The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed three officers attached to the Imo State Police Command over their alleged involvement in kidnapping, armed robbery, and vehicle theft.
The officers former Sergeant Gift Ekwueme, former Sergeant Ikechukwu Eto, and former Corporal Divine Okwuaru were removed from service after an internal disciplinary process found them culpable. They are currently being held at the state police headquarters and are expected to face prosecution in court.
Confirming the development on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, said the case came to light following a complaint, which prompted an immediate investigation.
According to him, the suspects were arrested and detained before undergoing an orderly room trial. After they were found guilty of the allegations, the dismissal was approved by the state Commissioner of Police, effectively stripping them of their status as serving officers.
“They have been dismissed from the Force and will be charged in court,” he stated.
The trio is accused of abducting a resident, Mr. Obinna Egbu, in Owerri on February 8, 2026. They allegedly posed as members of the police Anti-Kidnapping Unit and, at gunpoint, forced the victim to hand over ₦1.7 million. A civilian driver, identified as Alex Chukwu, was also said to have assisted them.
Okoye noted that the disciplinary action should serve as a warning to other officers, stressing that misconduct will not be tolerated within the command.
He added that the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, has made it clear that corruption, abuse of power, and unprofessional behaviour will attract strict consequences.
The incident has reportedly unsettled many within the command, reinforcing the leadership’s stance on accountability and discipline.
