Lent : A Season To Return To What Truly Matters
As we begin the sacred season of Lent, with the Ash Wednesday, I joined fellow Christians at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Wuye, Abuja, where I received the ashes, embracing this solemn period of reflection, repentance and renewal.
Lent reminds us that beyond positions and public life, we are first accountable to God. It calls us to slow down, to search our hearts, and to return to the simple but demanding virtues of humility, sacrifice and compassion.
Prayer draws us closer to God. Fasting teaches discipline and self-control. Almsgiving opens our eyes to the needs of others. These are not mere religious routines, but practical expressions of faith that must shape how we live and how we serve.
This season offers each of us an opportunity to reflect on our lives, to mend what is broken, and to strengthen our commitment to doing good. It is a time to choose kindness over anger, service over self, and integrity over convenience.
May these forty (40) days deepen our faith, renew our strength, and guide us to become better individuals for our families, our communities and our nation.
Happy Ash Wednesday!
