Ramadan: Kebbi Govt Reduces Civil Servants’ Working Hours
Civil servants in Kebbi State will now close work earlier during the Ramadan period following an official directive from the state government.
The decision, approved by Governor Nasir Idris, comes after the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan as announced by the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs. The adjustment is intended to ease the daily routine of workers observing the fast.
The announcement was made in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Establishment, Pension and Training, Hafsat Tune. She explained that public servants will now work two hours less each day throughout the fasting period.
Under the revised schedule, offices will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. between Monday and Thursday, while activities on Fridays will end at 12:00 noon. The temporary arrangement will remain in place until the conclusion of Ramadan, after which the regular working hours will be restored.
The state government noted that the move aligns with practices commonly adopted in several northern states during Ramadan, where official hours are often adjusted to support workers balancing their professional responsibilities with religious obligations.
Ramadan is regarded as a sacred month in Islam, marked by fasting from dawn to sunset, increased devotion, and acts of charity.
