Rivers Assembly Suspends Impeachment Process Against Fubara, Deputy

The Rivers State House of Assembly has suspended impeachment proceedings initiated against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

The decision was taken on Thursday during plenary at the Assembly complex in Port Harcourt, following reported intervention by President Bola Tinubu.

Lawmakers had earlier, at their first sitting of the year, initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy over allegations of gross misconduct. The accusations reportedly included the demolition of the state House of Assembly complex and expenditure of public funds without legislative approval, among other claims.

However, at Thursday’s resumed session, a motion was moved and adopted to halt further action on the impeachment process.
