Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has named Nollywood star Mercy Johnson-Okojie as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.

The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor. According to the statement, the appointment forms part of the administration’s plan to deepen communication and strengthen interaction between the government and residents of the state.

The government described Johnson-Okojie as a seasoned actress, filmmaker, businesswoman and philanthropist, noting that she remains one of the most recognisable faces in Nollywood, with close to two decades in the industry and appearances in over 200 movies.

It also highlighted her humanitarian efforts through the Mercy Johnson Okojie Foundation, which focuses on initiatives such as women’s empowerment, child welfare, educational assistance and healthcare support.

Ikhilor stated that in her new role, she is expected to use her broad public appeal and grassroots connection to improve awareness and understanding of government policies and programmes.

Johnson-Okojie is married to Odianosen Okogie, who represents Esan North East/South East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
