Yobe Gov, Buni Mourns Maiduguri Bombings, Donates N10m to Victims

Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni has extended his condolences to the government and people of Borno State following the recent multiple bomb explosions in Maiduguri, which claimed over 23 lives.

Buni, who is currently in Mecca observing the lesser Hajj (Umrah), was represented during a sympathy visit to Maiduguri by his deputy, Idi Gubana.

Through his representative, the governor also expressed sympathy for those injured in the attacks, lamenting that innocent citizens going about their daily lives had fallen victim to senseless violence. He described the incident as deeply tragic, noting that Yobe State shares in the grief of its neighboring state.

“Our hearts bleed as innocent citizens, who were merely going about their lawful daily activities, have become victims of this senseless violence,” the message read.

Buni called on residents to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and useful information, stressing that maintaining security is a shared responsibility.

Reaffirming the close ties between the two states, he emphasized that both regions are united in both progress and pain. He also commended the Federal Government and security forces for their continued efforts to restore peace in the North-East, while urging that recent setbacks should not undermine the progress achieved so far.

As part of efforts to support victims, the Yobe State Government announced a donation of N10 million to assist affected families.

In response, the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Umar Usman Kadafur, expressed appreciation for the visit and support from the Yobe delegation. He noted that both states continue to face similar security challenges, particularly as ongoing military operations often force insurgents into urban areas where they deploy improvised explosive devices.

Kadafur stressed the need for sustained collaboration between the two states and their residents to tackle the recurring threats. He also urged citizens to remain united, support security efforts, and intensify prayers, emphasizing that lasting peace in the region depends on collective action.

The Yobe delegation included the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, special advisers, and other senior officials.
