Ozoro Raping Festival: Delta Police Arrest Five in Assault Case
March 20, 2026 – Warri, Delta State — The Delta State Police Command has made significant progress in its investigation into the assault of women in Ozoro, following widespread outrage over videos that circulated online showing the harrowing incident.
On Friday, March 20, police confirmed the arrest of five suspects believed to be connected with the violent scenes captured in the footage.
Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, disclosed that the suspects include the community head and chief organiser of the event where the incident unfolded. The arrests were made as part of a deeper investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police.
In a statement shared on social media, Edafe described the police response to both the incident and its aftermath, saying:
“This is alarming, disgusting and embarrassing. The CP has ordered an investigation into the incident. The command condemns this in totality; no custom or tradition is superior to the rights of citizens.”
He further quoted the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, urging calm among residents while assuring that the suspects would be held accountable, adding:
“The CP vows that anyone involved will be arrested and brought to justice.”
According to the statement, the arrested suspects including the community leader from Oramudu quarters have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further questioning and legal action.
Edafe also appealed to victims and eyewitnesses to come forward with credible information that could aid the investigation, stressing that all details provided would be treated professionally and confidentially.
The development marks the first major breakthrough in the case since videos of the March 19 incident sparked national condemnation. While the footage prompted discussions on culture and tradition, police have reiterated that no cultural practice can justify the violation of human rights.
Authorities continue efforts to identify other individuals seen in the viral videos and urged members of the public to assist with any information that could help secure further arrests.
