Yuletide: Police Warns Ebonyi Masquerades Against Infringement of Indigenes’ Right
The Ebonyi state police command has advised indigenes to be careful during the Christmas and New Year Celebration.
Stating the reason as to not infringe on indigenes’ rights or obstruct traffic during the festive period, spokesman of the command (DSP Joshua Ukandu) addressed this in a statement submitted to reporters on Tuesday, in Abakaliki.
Quoting Anthonia Uche Anya-Ebonyi State commissioner of police, the statement stressed that no one is exempted from the warning, further stating that anyone who goes against it will be heavily punished.
“The command is urging everyone to refrain from use of fireworks during this period to avoid the risk of fire outbreak and panic caused by the noise.
Additionally, the burning of tyres on main roads and other such actions taken by masquerades must not infringe on the rights of the indigenes nor block traffic. Anyone who violates this law would face the consequences.” The Ebonyi state commissioner of police stated.
Furthermore, in her speech, Mrs Anthonia said that the command has already briefed the area commanders across Local Governments in the state, divisional police officers, tactical team commanders and other senior police officers across the state to be security conscious.
Stressing on the fact that police officers should not extort from indigenes and refrain from all forms of corruption.

Concluding her statement, she said;
“The indigenes of Ebonyi state should remain law-abiding and vigilant during this festive period.”
