Operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, have exhumed the corpse of a 52-year-old man, Chinedu Ezeani, eight months after he was allegedly murdered and secretly buried by his 35-year-old cousin, Chukwudalu Ezeani.

The Anambra State Police Command disclosed this in a press release issued by its spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

According to the police, the case was initially reported as a missing person incident at Amichi Police Station, but fresh intelligence led detectives to arrest Chukwudalu Ezeani in connection with the murder of his cousin.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that on 1st August 2025, at about 8:00 pm, the suspect allegedly killed the deceased at his residence in Afube Village, Amichi, and buried the body in a shallow grave within his compound, concealing the crime for about eight months,” the statement said.

The police added that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and led operatives to the shallow grave inside his compound, where the corpse of Chinedu Ezeani was exhumed.

The remains have since been deposited at a mortuary for necessary forensic examination, while the suspect remains in custody and will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded.

SP Ikenga noted that the case, which was earlier treated as a missing person report, was reopened following credible intelligence that eventually led to the breakthrough.
