ADC Denies Alleged Talks with PRP, Insists Focus on Legal Battle

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed reports suggesting it is engaged in talks with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), describing the claim as false and speculative.

In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi said, “Our attention has been drawn to a story in circulation that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is in talks with another political party, specifically the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), in anticipation of its court judgment.” It added emphatically, “We would like to state categorically that this is not true.”

The ADC further clarified that its coalition leadership is not currently in discussion with any political party, stressing that its immediate priority is its ongoing legal dispute. “The coalition leadership is not having any such conversation with any political party at the moment,” the statement said.

The party maintained that it remains focused on overturning what it described as unlawful actions taken against its leadership by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and alleged agents of the ruling party.

According to the statement, “We are fully committed to ensuring that the illegal action taken against our leadership… is upturned,” noting that this is essential to protecting Nigeria’s democratic system.

While ruling out any immediate alliance, the ADC said it remains open to broader opposition collaboration in the future. “While we are open to expanding the coalition… we remain clear about the responsibility that this moment has imposed on us. We will not abdicate that responsibility,” the party stated.

It also dismissed speculation that it might abandon its platform, describing such claims as “preemptive and speculative” and urging the public to disregard them.

The denial follows earlier reports suggesting possible alignment between both parties. Some accounts indicated that embattled ADC stakeholders were exploring the PRP as an alternative platform amid internal challenges and looming electoral timelines, while separate political engagements between figures from both parties had further fueled speculation of a potential alliance.

Despite these developments, the ADC insists no formal negotiations are underway and expressed confidence that Nigeria’s judiciary will uphold the rule of law in its ongoing legal battles.
