“It’s AI” – ICPC Disowns Viral ₦50bn Bribery Video, Threatens Legal Action

Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has dismissed a widely circulated video alleging a ₦50 billion bribery scandal, describing it as false, Ai generated and deliberately misleading.

In a statement released on Monday, the commission clarified that the video, which has gained traction across social media platforms, has no connection to the agency or any of its ongoing investigations. According to the ICPC, the content was fabricated, with portions reportedly generated using artificial intelligence to mislead the public.

The commission’s spokesperson stated that the individuals, claims, and scenarios portrayed in the footage are entirely fictitious. He emphasized that the ICPC is not investigating any lawyer, judicial officer, or individual in relation to the alleged ₦50 billion transaction.

The agency also warned those responsible for creating and sharing the video to desist immediately, noting that it would not tolerate attempts to misuse its name to spread misinformation. It added that individuals found culpable could face legal consequences.

The viral video in question was presented as an alleged exposé, claiming that officials linked to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had uncovered or were involved in a ₦50 billion bribery scheme, reportedly tied to attempts to influence judicial outcomes and implicating unnamed lawyers and judges.

However, authorities have clarified that the clip was entirely staged, with parts of it generated or manipulated using artificial intelligence tools to create a false sense of authenticity.

The ICPC urged Nigerians to disregard the video and rely only on official communication channels for verified information, reaffirming its commitment to transparency and credible investigations.
