Troops of the Nigerian Army have intensified operations against terrorist logistics networks in Kogi State, leading to the interception of suspected couriers and the recovery of a large cache of ammunition.

The operations, carried out by the 12 Brigade over a three-month period, were part of sustained intelligence-driven efforts to disrupt supply routes used by terrorist elements within the state.

According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, “troops… have intensified a series of operations and intelligence-driven efforts aimed at cracking down on terrorists and dismantling their logistics supply networks.”

In one of the operations conducted on March 29, 2026, along the Jamata–Owara road in Lokoja Local Government Area, troops intercepted a suspected courier riding a motorcycle. A search revealed the bike had been modified with a hidden compartment for transporting ammunition. Preliminary investigations linked the suspect to known terrorist groups.

The Army also confirmed the arrest of a high-profile courier identified as Mathew Elisha, also known as Nasara, who had been on security watch lists.

In a follow-up operation on April 20, 2026, troops acting on credible intelligence mounted a checkpoint along the Obajana–Kabba road in Lokoja. During the exercise, a Toyota bus traveling from Makurdi was intercepted, leading to the arrest of two additional suspects identified as Mallam Zubairu Abubakar and Adamu Abubakar Abdullahi.

A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered “a sack containing 314 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition… and three AK-47 rifle magazines concealed behind the driver’s seat,” the statement said. Other items recovered included mobile phones and identification documents.

The suspects and recovered items have since been handed over to the 12 Military Intelligence Regiment for further investigation.

The Army noted that the operation highlights “the vigilance and proactive posture of troops in denying terrorists freedom of movement and disrupting their logistics network” within the operational area.
