The Kebbi State Hisbah Board has released two women who were earlier detained over indecent dressing after counseling them on moral conduct and acceptable dressing standards in the state.
Officials of the board said the women were not prosecuted but were instead advised on the importance of modesty, cultural values, and respecting societal norms.
According to the authorities, the decision to release them followed what the board described as a successful counseling session aimed at correcting their behavior.
The Hisbah Board, which operates under the Kebbi State Ministry of Religious Affairs, said its actions were part of efforts to promote moral discipline and maintain public decency across the state. The agency also urged residents, especially young people, to dress responsibly and avoid actions considered contrary to religious and cultural values.
Hisbah outfits in several northern states have continued to carry out operations linked to the enforcement of moral and religious standards, including actions against alleged indecent dressing, illicit gatherings, and other activities viewed as immoral under local regulations.
