Ex-Abia Speaker Pulls Out of Senatorial Contest

Former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Christopher Enweremadu, has withdrawn from the race for the Abia Central Senatorial seat ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election scheduled for Monday.

Enweremadu announced his decision during an expanded stakeholders’ meeting of the Isialangwa North Equity Movement held in Isialangwa North Local Government Area of Abia State, where political leaders, party members, youth representatives, and community stakeholders gathered to discuss political developments within the zone.

The former speaker declared his support for Chief Emeka Atuma as the preferred candidate for the Abia Central Senatorial District, describing the move as a decision guided by fairness, equity, and existing political arrangements within the district.

According to him, the zoning understanding within the senatorial district supports the completion of the remaining tenure by a candidate from Ikwuano Local Government Area, adding that respecting such agreements is necessary to maintain unity and political stability in the zone.

Enweremadu also endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections. He stated that the administration’s policies and reforms under the APC-led government deserved continuity, expressing confidence that ongoing programmes would eventually benefit Nigerians.

The stakeholders at the meeting unanimously adopted Emeka Atuma, popularly known as “Kabila,” as their consensus candidate for the forthcoming senatorial contest. Political leaders at the gathering urged party members and supporters across the district to unite behind Atuma in the interest of inclusiveness and sustained development.

Christopher Enweremadu, a former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party who later joined the APC, had earlier declared interest in contesting for the Abia Central Senate seat before stepping down from the race.
