Nwifuru Secures APC Ticket for Second Term With 199,483 Votes

Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 Ebonyi gubernatorial election after winning the party’s primary election held on May 21.

The primary election took place at Nwifuru’s Enyanwigwe Ward in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, where party faithful and supporters gathered in large numbers to participate in the exercise.

Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Aniekan Sunday Ekpo, who announced the results, declared that Nwifuru polled 199,483 votes to emerge victorious as the party’s sole governorship candidate.

Declaring the result, Ekpo said:

“His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes cast, is hereby declared the winner of the APC governorship primary election in Ebonyi State.”

Speaking shortly after the exercise, Governor Nwifuru assured residents of Ebonyi State that his administration would become more decisive, focused and result-oriented ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him:

“We’ll be more decisive in taking actions, more focused and more hardworking. These are the things Ebonyi people should expect.”

The governor described the large turnout during the primary as a reflection of public confidence in his administration and the achievements recorded within almost three years in office.

Nwifuru also defended the adoption of the direct primary system by the APC, describing the Option A4 voting process as one of the most transparent democratic methods because it allows party members to directly choose their candidates.

“If you lose, you see it. If you win, you see it. Once you impose candidates, people may not come out to support them during elections,” he stated.

The governor assumed office in 2023.

Nwifuru, who previously served as Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly before becoming governor, has consistently emphasized party unity and peaceful political engagement within the APC.
