Police Arrest Officer Who Threatened To Kill Anyone Filming Him

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested Assistant Superintendent of Police, Newton Isokpehi, after a viral video showed him threatening to shoot anyone who attempted to film him while on duty.

The video, which circulated widely on social media, sparked outrage after the officer was heard warning civilians and bystanders against recording police activities during an operation.

Following public backlash, the police command confirmed that the officer had been taken into custody and subjected to disciplinary procedures over his conduct. Authorities described his actions as unacceptable and inconsistent with the standards of the Nigeria Police Force.

In a statement issued by the police authorities, the force condemned the officer’s behaviour, saying it went against ongoing reforms aimed at promoting accountability, professionalism and public trust within the force.

According to the statement, the conduct displayed by the officer was:

“Unacceptable, unprofessional, and inconsistent with the ethics, standards, and code of conduct of the Nigeria Police Force.”

The police also reiterated that members of the public have the right to lawfully record police officers carrying out their duties, provided such recordings do not obstruct official operations or compromise public safety.

Reports further indicated that the officer has been subjected to a drug test as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident, while the outcome of the disciplinary process is expected to be made public after completion.

The incident has continued to generate reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for stronger accountability measures within the police force.
