Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has fired back at presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga following calls for his arrest and prosecution over a viral fake audio clip allegedly linked to President Bola Tinubu.
The controversy started after an AI-generated audio recording circulated online, allegedly mimicking President Tinubu’s voice and making comments about insecurity and the 2027 election.
Reacting to the clip, presidential aide Bayo Onanuga accused VDM of spreading false information and demanded that he face legal action.
Onanuga described the incident as “an egregious abuse of the social media platform,” insisting that the activist should be held accountable for sharing the audio online.
However, VDM responded angrily in a video shared on social media, where he strongly criticized the presidential spokesman and accused the government of focusing on the wrong priorities while insecurity continues across the country.
During the video, VDM said: “President spokesman Bayo, you are a very stupid old man.” He also added, “It’s only stupid people that will believe that video.”
The activist questioned why government officials were quick to react to a viral audio clip while kidnappings and killings remain major concerns in different parts of Nigeria.
Referring to recent reports of abductions involving schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, VDM accused the presidency of paying more attention to online criticism than the country’s worsening security situation.
VDM also denied deliberately creating fake information, insisting that the controversy was being used as an excuse to silence him because of his outspoken criticism of the current administration.
According to him, ordinary Nigerians are more concerned about hardship, insecurity, and the rising cost of living than social media disputes.
