INEC Declares Oyebanji Winner of Ekiti Governorship Election

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, securing a fresh mandate to continue leading the state for another four years.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the result after the conclusion of collation from the 16 local government areas of the state.

According to the final results declared by the electoral umpire, Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 1,781 votes.

The outcome marks a landslide victory for the incumbent governor, who won in all local government areas and maintained a commanding lead throughout the collation process.

Declaring the result, the Returning Officer said Oyebanji had satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes cast in the election. The INEC official subsequently returned him elected as governor of Ekiti State.

The election, held across the state on Saturday, witnessed the participation of voters in the 16 local government areas, with security agencies and election officials deployed to ensure a peaceful exercise.

In his reaction, Oyebanji expressed gratitude to the people of Ekiti for renewing their confidence in his administration. He pledged to continue delivering on his government’s development agenda and promised not to take the support of the electorate for granted.

The governor also commended residents for maintaining peace during the election and urged political stakeholders to work together in the interest of the state’s development.
