A 38-year-old Nigerian businesswoman, Iwebema Ogechi Peace, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) after 7.5 kilograms of cocaine were allegedly found concealed in a false compartment of her luggage at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday, June 21, 2026, while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to Beijing, China.
The arrest was disclosed by the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, as part of the agency’s latest operational update on its nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking.
According to the NDLEA, she was intercepted based on credible intelligence, which prompted officers to carry out a thorough search of her checked luggage.
During the search, operatives reportedly discovered four large parcels of cocaine carefully hidden inside a professionally constructed false bottom of the suitcase.
The seized drugs weighed a total of 7.5 kilograms.
According to the agency, Iwebema told investigators that she frequently travelled to China to purchase goods for resale in Nigeria. However, the discovery of the concealed narcotics led to her arrest, and investigations into the case are ongoing.
