ABAKALIKI – The newly launched Newsmax Nigeria Podcast Studio has received a major endorsement from the Special Assistant to the Ebonyi State Governor on New Media, Leo Ekene Oketa, who described the platform as a positive development for independent journalism and a reflection of the state’s commitment to press freedom.
Oketa made the remarks after visiting the studio in Abakaliki on Monday at the invitation of journalist and broadcaster Wisdom Nwedene, a reporter and anchor with Newsmax Nigeria Podcast.
Newsmax Nigeria Podcast is an independent digital media platform established to provide in-depth discussions on governance, politics, business, and social issues while amplifying stories and perspectives from Ebonyi State and beyond. 
The platform seeks to promote balanced journalism, informed public discourse, and greater civic engagement through podcasting and digital broadcasting.
In his statement after touring the newly established studio, Oketa described the visit as an enriching experience and praised the initiative for creating another platform for objective journalism.
“It was an enriching experience and a reminder of the vital role independent media plays in deepening our democracy. I must commend Newsmax for providing a credible platform for balanced journalism, objective reportage, and constructive engagement,” he said.
He also linked the emergence of independent media platforms in the state to what he described as an enabling environment created by the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
“The emergence and growth of platforms like Newsmax further demonstrate an undeniable truth: Ebonyi State is under the leadership of a Governor who respects, protects, and promotes press freedom and freedom of expression. If the media space were stifled or suffocated, investors and media entrepreneurs would certainly not have the confidence to establish and expand such ventures here,” Oketa stated.
According to him, Ebonyi has witnessed the establishment of private radio stations and independent podcast platforms since Governor Nwifuru assumed office, reflecting an administration that recognizes the media as a vital pillar of democracy and good governance.
He congratulated the Newsmax team on the successful launch of the podcast studio, expressing confidence that the platform would continue to inform, educate, and contribute meaningfully to the development of Ebonyi State and the wider society.
