Tinubu Launches ‘Power Force’ Programme, Opens 5,000 Metering Jobs for Nigerian Youths

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a new initiative aimed at creating employment opportunities for young Nigerians through the country’s electricity sector, unveiling a programme that will train 5,000 meter installers and technicians.

The President made the announcement in a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday, describing the initiative as part of his administration’s commitment to job creation under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to Tinubu, the programme, known as The Power Force, will be implemented through the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI), which was established to bridge Nigeria’s metering gap, eliminate estimated billing and improve the electricity market.

“Jobs for our young people remain central to our Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He explained that the programme would equip participants with practical technical skills while connecting them with employment opportunities in the power sector.

“This programme is about jobs, skills, and dignity.”

“It will equip young Nigerians with practical technical skills and connect them to real work in a sector that touches every home, every business, and every community in our country.”

Tinubu disclosed that the opportunity would be open to qualified Nigerians who have completed their secondary school education, adding that a special quota has been reserved for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The President also highlighted the importance of metering in improving electricity supply across the country, saying it would ensure consumers pay only for the electricity they use while enabling distribution companies to operate more efficiently.

According to him, proper metering would promote transparency in revenue collection, reduce losses, improve infrastructure maintenance and support investments that would lead to more reliable electricity.

“When homes and businesses are properly metered, Nigerians can pay for what they actually use.”

He further revealed that he has directed the Presidential Metering Initiative to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) and other relevant stakeholders to begin implementing the programme within the next 30 days.

Tinubu encouraged interested and eligible young Nigerians to take advantage of the opportunity.

“Join The Power Force. Learn a skill. Earn with dignity. Help us end estimated billing and be part of the work to light up Nigeria.”

According to the president, applications for the programme will open on July 4, 2026, through the Presidential Metering Initiative portal.
