Abuja — The All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to formally unveil Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election during a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and other top stakeholders in Abuja.
The meeting, currently underway at the Continental Hotel, comes amid prolonged speculation over the composition of the ruling party’s presidential ticket ahead of the next general election.
For several months, political observers and party supporters had speculated that President Tinubu could replace Shettima with a northern Christian in an effort to address concerns surrounding the Muslim-Muslim ticket that secured the APC’s victory in the 2023 election.
However, senior party figures at the venue of Friday’s meeting say the President has decided to retain Shettima as his running mate.
The expected announcement is seen as a move to put an end to the uncertainty that has surrounded the vice-presidential slot in recent months.
If officially confirmed, the decision would reaffirm the Tinubu-Shettima partnership as the APC prepares for the 2027 presidential contest.
As of the time of filing this report, the meeting was still in progress, with party leaders expected to make a formal declaration after deliberations conclude.
