Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has praised President Bola Tinubu for approving two major federal road projects, describing the move as further proof of the administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure in the South-East.
In a post shared on his X account on Thursday, Soludo said the approval marked a significant moment for the region, adding that the projects would strengthen connectivity and address long-standing infrastructure challenges.
The projects approved by the Federal Government include the Otuocha–Anam–Abaji Road, which will link Anambra State to Kogi State, and the Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube Road, designed to connect Anambra and Imo states to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.
Reacting to the development, the governor expressed appreciation to the President.
“I can’t contain my joy and that of my people regarding the great news from DIKESIMBA Anambra; DIKESIMBA NDIGBO, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he wrote.
Soludo said the approvals demonstrate Tinubu’s resolve to address infrastructure gaps in the South-East, describing the effort as part of a broader process of rebuilding the region.
“Certainly, President Tinubu has a date with history, and even more so with the South-East. He continues to demonstrate his avowed commitment to orchestrating the reconstruction of the South-East, thereby finally healing the wounds of the Civil War,” he said.
According to the governor, the latest approvals build on what he described as ongoing “unprecedented, foundational infrastructural rebirths” already taking place across the region.
He also revealed details of his engagement with the President that preceded the approvals.
Soludo said he met with Tinubu on July 1, after which the Minister of Works, David Umahi, contacted him the following day to request information on the road projects they had discussed.
“I met the President on Wednesday, July 1. The next day, the Honourable Minister for Works and Infrastructure, our own ever-productive and beloved Senator Dave Umahi, contacted me to send him the details of the roads we had repeatedly discussed,” he said.
The governor explained that he forwarded the details on July 3 and was informed by Umahi on Tuesday that the President had approved both projects for design and procurement.
“Today, July 15, I received a message from the Minister of Works that the President has graciously approved both roads for design and procurement. What can I say?” he added.
Soludo described the two roads as strategic infrastructure that would improve movement of people and goods across the South-East, South-South and North-Central regions.
“These two roads constitute critical game-changers for the South-East, South-South and North-Central. The man who tamed the Atlantic Ocean in Lagos is certainly redefining politics, and the South-East won’t be the same again,” he stated.
The governor said the development also highlights the importance of collaboration between different levels of government in delivering projects that directly benefit citizens.
“For me personally, this is why politics makes sense to me: working collaboratively and building alliances to achieve concrete results that improve the lives of the people,” he said.
He concluded his message by thanking the President, writing, “Thank you, Asiwaju! History will be kind to you.”
