Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed the importance of international partnerships in advancing Nigeria’s development following a meeting with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Patrick Egloff.
Obi disclosed this in a post shared on his X account on Wednesday, where he also shared photos from the meeting.
According to the former Anambra State governor, the discussion focused on Nigeria’s development priorities, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and poverty reduction.
“Yesterday, I met with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Patrick Egloff, and we had a productive and engaging discussion on our country’s developmental journey, with particular emphasis on the critical sectors that drive development: education, healthcare, and lifting people out of poverty,” Obi wrote.
He also acknowledged the role of the Swiss Confederation in supporting Nigeria’s development efforts over the years.
Obi expressed appreciation for Switzerland’s contributions to the country’s economic growth, humanitarian interventions, cultural exchanges, and peace-building initiatives, especially in the North-East.
“I expressed my gratitude for the invaluable contributions of the Swiss Confederation to Nigeria’s development, especially its support for critical economic, cultural, humanitarian, and peace-building initiatives, particularly in the North-East,” he said.
The former presidential candidate stressed that deeper collaboration between Nigeria and development partners is necessary to improve the lives of citizens and promote sustainable growth.
“Building stronger partnerships founded on shared values and a commitment to human development remains essential to creating a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria,” Obi added.
The meeting comes as Obi continues to engage with local and international stakeholders on issues relating to governance, economic development, education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.
