Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured Nigerians that the Bola Tinubu-led administration is making concerted efforts to address the country’s security challenges, expressing optimism that insecurity would soon be brought under control.
Akpabio made the statement on Wednesday when he received members of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, led by its National President, Dr Lima Ahmed, during a visit to the National Assembly in Abuja.
His remarks were contained in a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom.
Nigeria has continued to face major security concerns, including terrorism, bandit attacks, kidnapping and communal clashes, with several parts of the country recording deadly incidents and abductions in recent months.
The Federal Government has maintained that it is committed to improving security through military operations and other measures.

Speaking during the meeting, Akpabio pointed to the recent rescue of abducted schoolchildren in Oyo State as evidence of the government’s efforts to tackle insecurity.
He said, “As Nigerians, we are all aware of the insecurity challenges that we are currently facing. All I can say is that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is giving the situation its utmost attention, and that is what led to the recent release of the school children that were abducted in Oyo State.
“The current administration is doing a whole lot. I can assure you that very soon, the issue of security would be a thing of the past. Don’t rely on what you hear or see on social media. They are not a true reflection of what is happening in our country.”
The Senate President also addressed the issue of women’s involvement in politics, saying the actions of some past female political office holders had affected the willingness of other women to support one another in elections.
According to him, the conduct of some women who previously occupied public positions has contributed to the challenges faced by women seeking elective offices.
Akpabio further assured the association of the National Assembly’s backing for its upcoming international ladies golf tournament scheduled to hold at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
Earlier, Dr Ahmed appreciated the Senate President for welcoming the delegation and officially invited him to the tournament. She also decorated Akpabio as the Grand Patron of the association.
