The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a consignment of cocaine concealed inside phone chargers and allegedly destined for Saudi Arabia.
The agency disclosed the seizure on Sunday through its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, who warned that drug traffickers were increasingly hiding illicit substances in ordinary household items to beat security checks.
Babafemi shared images of the intercepted items on X, noting that the chargers looked ordinary but contained concealed cocaine.
“On the surface value, these are phone chargers but @ndlea_nigeria officers won’t fall for that. Concealed in there are consignments of cocaine going to Saudi Arabia,” he said.
The latest interception is another example of traffickers using seemingly harmless goods to move illegal drugs across borders. The NDLEA has reported similar cases in recent months involving cocaine concealed in items such as cartons of clothes, luggage and other everyday goods.
Babafemi used the development to renew the agency’s warning to members of the public against accepting parcels or luggage for delivery without knowing what they contain.
“This is why we keep warning people not to help anyone deliver any parcel or luggage on their face value because of the desperation by traffickers,” he said.
The agency has continued to intensify checks on outbound consignments as part of efforts to disrupt attempts to move illicit drugs out of Nigeria. Recent NDLEA operations have uncovered cocaine and other controlled substances hidden inside legitimate shipments headed for foreign destinations.
The agency urged members of the public to exercise caution when handling parcels on behalf of others, particularly where the contents have not been properly verified.
